Summary from: VOYA When Tempest left land, home, and family for life in the sea, she thought she would have no regrets. Answering the lure of her mermaid half and the selkie, Kona, who awakened that part of her, she begins the training she needs to lead her clan and deal with Tiamat, the sea witch who killed her mother and wants her dead as well. Her queen, Hailana, has told her that it is dangerous to go home, but she is drawn to check on them. She is attacked by some of Tiamat's henchmen. Gravely injured, she discovers a new talent that allows her to escape to Kona's territory, where she is treated and given an infusion of selkie blood to help her heal. Returning to her own clan, and in the midst of training, she discovers a cache of pearls and sea glass holding her mother's memories, and deals with the results of Tiamat's attack on a neighboring clan. Fearing something is wrong with her family, Tempest returns home to find her younger brother in the hospital in a coma. Most readers will know before Tempest that this is Tiamat's fault, but her time on land, dealing with family, Mark, and Kona, sharpens Tempest's understanding of what she wants as she returns to the water to try to "make things right." Tempest Unleashed is almost all action, and as much as the reader occasionally needs to take a breath, Tempest would have been wise to do so as well; it might have led to better decision making. Even so, it will appeal to fans of the series and will have them clamoring for its sequel. Reviewer: Suanne Roush

Tempest, the mermaid, has been a beautiful delight to all of your readers, Tracy, so we're dying to know more about you and what makes you the author you are! Thank you for taking the time to visit A Bookish Libraria.
First of all, please tell us a special something about what makes you "tick." When you aren’t writing, what are you doing?
If I’m not writing, I’m either teaching college classes, hanging with my friends, hanging with my sons, shopping or cooking. I’m one of those people who likes to be busy almost all the time—downtime makes me nervous.
I actually write a bunch of different genres because I can never make up my mind—there’s so much out there to write about, so many stories to tell. I love anything paranormal, which is why I write mermaids, witches and dragons. I also love compelling contemporary stories, which is why I write those for adults and YA and I am also in love with a good Armageddon story, which is why I chose to write my January 2013 YA, Doomed. But if you’re asking why I chose mermaids, it’s because I’ve been in love with mermaids since I was four years old. I love them!!!
Please share with your readers where you like to write. Do you have a particular space or desk
I write all over—most often hiding in the living room where the noise from my three sons isn’t quite as loud. I also write at Barnes and Noble a lot and often in the pick-up line to get my boys from school. Oh, and laying across my bed some days, too.
In your opinion, what makes a book a great one?
I think a truly compelling main character that you can hurt with and worry over and laugh with and root for is what makes a book great. I can forgive a lot if I fall in love with a character.
Which author(s) most influenced your love of books from childhood?Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss. When I was a teenager—Ayn Rand, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, John Keats, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Bronte, JD Salinger, William Burroughs, Ken Kesey, Joyce Carol Oates, Ernest Gaines, Maya Angelou, Diana DiPrima, Allen Ginsburg
Read any good books in the past 6 months? Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez, Fair Game by Patricia Briggs, The Princess of Iowa by M. Molly Backes, Sister by Rosamund Lipton
8) Were you able to keep your original title? What was it, if not? For this book, yes. For the first book in the trilogy, no. Tempest Rising was originally called Rip Tide, but my publisher thought it said surfing (which is a part of the book) but didn’t say mermaid, so we changed it.
9) If you could write your book again, what would you change? I think I’d work on making the villain a little more well-rounded. And there is one hospital scene that I went back and forth on which of the two corners of the love triangle to use—I chose Kona and sometimes I think that was right and sometimes I think it should have been Mark … that’s a hard question.
10) What was the worst distraction you had to fight through while writing your book?
Oh, Summer vacation with my three boys—they were all home and driving me INSANE!
